EX Series Escalators

The EX Series – The Design Concept of the Future
Developed through many years of dedication and experience, Hitachi escalators feature a variety of innovations including the 8mm Side Cleat, the All-Stainless Steel Steps and the Independent Top Drive System. Taking full advantage of these high-tech features, Hitachi has created a new image for its escalators, resulting in the development of the innovative EX series. Hitachi’s comprehensive command of electrical and electronic technology has brought escalators a great deal closer to perfection. Escalators are now slimmer, more fashionable and more user-friendly than ever.

Features Specification
Stainless Steel Steps with Ideal Cleats
Hitachi is the first in the industry to introduce stainless steel escalator steps. They are pressed from stainless steel plates. The higher strength of stainless steel prevents the step surface or riser from being deformed by umbrella tips or other sharp objects. This substantially increases the life of the steps.

1.   Step Surface
The surfaces are notched for foothold.

2.   Four Sides Yellow Demarcation Lines
A yellow demarcation made from synthetic resin is provided around all four edges of the step to clearly differentiate it from other steps. This zone allows one-glance confirmation of where to step.

3.   Raised Cleats on Both Sides
The edges on both sides of the step are 8mm higher, and the upper part of edge tread is diagonally cut.

Drive system enables not only energy saving, but also extends life expectancy of handrails.

1.   Drive system does not require tension of handrail which conventional traction drive does.

2.   Drive system does not require reverse curve which assists cracks on handrail lips.

30% Reduction in Energy Consumption
Since escalators operate continuously, Hitachi has redesigned the drive mechanism to conserve energy.

Escalators efficiently move large numbers of people with a minimum of waiting. However, they operate constantly regardless of the number of passengers they carry. Therefore, even a small decrease in energy consumption produces substantial savings. Hitachi has made a number of improvements to the drive mechanism in its easy-to-maintain overhead machine room which has been proven superior over many years of experience. An approximate 30% reduction in energy consumption has been achieved by enhancing drive transmission efficiency and reducing friction. The power efficiency of the EX Series makes it especially attractive to department stores and shopping complexes.

New Drive Gears Enhance Power Transmission Efficiency by 15%
One of the major factors which determines escalator power transmission efficiency is its reduction gears. Hitachi has developed a new line of parallel-axis helical-gear speed reducers which greatly increase efficiency compared to conventional worm reduction gears.

Options for Different Environments
In order to allow our escalators to be tailored to individual installations with varying passenger requirements, a wide range of options are available to choose from.

1.   Handrail Light
The balustrade lighting under the handrails creates a sophisticated atmosphere.

2.   Foot Light, Circular Light
A foot light and circular light are provided part of balustrade and in the skirt guard at the locations where passengers get on and off the escalator. (Circular light is only provided on EX-P model.)

3.   Demarcation Lamps
Lamps are provided beneath the steps at upper and lower landings so they can be more easily differentiated.
